Congratulations to Ronan Delehunty, Newtown, Durrow on his selection of Minor Hurler of the Year in Laois. Ronan has been is super form all season for his club The Harps Gaels and for his county Laois. Ronan is son of Martin and Claire Delehunty and he will be presented with his award at the Laois GAA Gala awards dinner Dance in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise on Saturday November 23.


The parish lotto with a jackpot of €11,300 was not won on November 04. Winners of the small draw were €30 Peggy Fitzpatrick, €25 Liam Deegan and €20 Lorcan McGuigan. The lotto of November 18 will be held in Peadar’s Bar, Durrow with a possible Jackpot of €11,600. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot.


Durrow Community Services are looking for people to work as General Operatives and in Meals on Wheels. Please contact the local FAS office for   details as soon as possible. DCS are looking for an Administrative Assistant/Secretary for the scheme. Anyone interested contact the local office for details.

Table Quiz

A Table Quiz in aid of Irish Motor Neuron Disease will be held in Peig’s Bar, Portlaoise on Wednesday Novenber 20 starting at 8pm. Table of four costs twenty euro. Spot prizes on the night. Christmas raffle with big prizes being completed on the night also. Please give this event your support as it does great work with people that suffers from Motor Neuron Disease.

This year marks the final of the annual Stars in Your Eyes show. We are hoping to go out with a bang! Practice continues each Thursday at 8.30pm in the Library on Chapel Street, its not too late to participate for the show which will take place this year on November 23. For your Information: The following people have training in the use of the Defibrillator which is situated beside the Copper Kettle and those  people can be called in an emergency. They are: Seosamh Murphy, Ger Alley, Evelyn Clancy, Mary Monahan, Susan Lawlor, Helena Dunphy, Catherine Clancy, Gay Lawlor, Johnny Campion, Mary Lawlor, Justin Brophy and Noel Keenan. We are in process of having it open for use on a permanent basis. A number of key holders have done refresher courses on the use of Defibrillator and it has been used very successfully recently

We are appealing for volunteers to help with meals deliveries. It takes less than an hour to deliver meals any day between 12 noon and 1pm. Some of our volunteers have had to retire thus leaving us short handed. This is a great service for the elderly of the area and even one day per week or less would be of great help. Congratulations to Louise Mahoney who will receive her soaring star award on Saturday night in a black Tie affair in The City West Hotel. This will be Lousie’s second award in her fantastic camoige career. 


Congratulations to the person who bought a quick pick in Lawlors Gala, Durrow on Saturday night for the National Lottery draw. The ticket had five numbers as drawn plus the bonus number and it was worth €25,000 to the lucky man. The winning ticket owner is known locally and comes from the Roscrea area.
