The Gandon Arts Group presents events to mark the 1913 Lockout in the Heritage Hotel, Killenard. November 12 at 7.30pm, talk by Padraig Yeates (€35). November 15, 7.30pm Dr Ciaran Woods, will present images from an exhibition at The Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin (€25). Care to Drive

Transport service is available for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment in the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore. This service is completely free to the patient. A volunteer driver will pick you up at the door of your home and bring you to the hospital. After treatment you will be brought home. So, if you are having trouble getting to and from the hospital, then speak to your oncology/haematology team, or call Gail in the Irish cancer Society at 01-2310566.

Tidy Towns

Bereavement Mass

Country Hunt Club

Charity horse ride on Sunday November 17 at 1.30pm. Meeting at the Fisherman’s Inn. Prizes for best turned out horse and rider. All jumps optional. Price €25/students €15. Deepest sympathy to the family of Michael (Mick) Costello Lea, Portarlington who passed away on Tuesday November 29. Michael was predeceased by his wife Dolores many years ago. He will be sadly missed by his partner Catherine and her family. His sons Michael, Seamus, Colm, Phillip, Paddy, David and Joe. His daughters Collette and Monica, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters and his extended family and friends. Requiem mass took place in St John’s Church Killenard on Saturday November 2, with burial after in the adjoining cemetery. May Michael rest in peace.


Condolences to the family of Noel Kelly formerly of 2 Marion Hill who died in Warrenpoint recently. May Noel rest in peace.

Fundraising Dance

A fundraising dance will be held in The Gandon Inn, Emo on Friday November 29 for the St Vincent de Paul. Music by Unity. Dancing from 9 to 12. Local auctioneer Matt Dunne will conduct an auction on the night. All donations for auction or raffle would be appreciated. Admission only €5. Raffle tickets are on sale at €2 each and can be bought from any committee member or from our shop.

‘Try a Day’ in Portatlington GAA Centre Portarlington. Saturday afternoons from 4.30pm till 5.30pm. Girls and boys from six-years upwards are invited to come and play camogie or hurling.
