The Portarlington & Killenard charity gala ball takes place on February 28 in the Heritage Golf & Spa Killenard. This is our ninth year and our chosen charities this year are Port Scouts Club & Port Special Olympics Club. The night includes a four course meal, free wine, wonderful prizes and then dance away the night to the wonderful Keith McConald Showband, followed by a disco. Parade or No Parade
A meeting will be held on Thursday January 23 in the Anvil Inn at 8pm to try to form an organising committee for the St Patrick’s Day parade. We would ask all our community groups to send a representative to attend on their behalf. On the night we will try to put together an organising committee to run the parade. It would be a real shame if there is no parade in 2014.
The Portarlington Social Services/Meals on Wheels are holding their AGM in the Social Services Centre on Friday January 31 at 7.30pm. New members would be very welcome.
Arlington Ladies Soccer are up and running. We train on Friday nights at 9pm in the Portarlington Community Centre and have a series of friendlies lined up in the coming weeks. Terence Says Thanks
Well known person of the year recipient 2013 Terence Lawlor would like to thank everyone for the wonderful surprise party he was given recently on his 50th birthday. Terence would like to thank his family, his many friends and Niall and his staff in the Anvil Inn. He was overwhelmed by the wonderful turn out on the night.

A celebratory meal was held on Saturday January 11 in McCann Park for the players of the minor team who won the 2013 league. After a brief speech by chairman Seamus Hunt, they were then presented with their medals by invited guest Ross Munnelly who then gave an inspiring speech. The club wishes to extend their thanks to Ross for giving his time, and to all who prepared food and helped out to make the night a success.
Deepest Sympathy to Vincent Cryan and his family on the recent death of his sister Bridget Morrow (nee Cryan) who died in Bermingham.
Condolences to the family and friends of Brendan Leonard Killnacourt Wood and late of Blueball Co. Offaly who passed away on Thursday January 2. Requiem mass took place in St Brigid’s Church Mountbolus, with burial after to Lowertown Cemetery Mountbolus.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Patrick (Paddy) Byrne Lough Gate, and late of Seskin View Tallaght who passed away in the Regional Hospital Tullamore on Wednesday January 15. Paddy will be sadly missed by his loving wife Pauline, his sons Stephen, Michael and Anthony, his extended family and many friends. Requiem mass took place on Saturday January 18 at St Michael’s Church Portarlington, with cremation after in Newlands Cross Crematorium.
