The parish lotto jackpot is now heading for €14,300. On March 24 the jackpot was €14,000 and it was not won, small winners were €30 Sean Cahill snr, €25 Ger Brophy, and €20 Andrew Cantwell. The lotto of Monday night April 7 will be in Bob’s Bar with a possible jackpot of €14,300.
With the trout fishing season off to a great start everyone who fishes the club waters are reminded that a permit is necessary to fish otherwise membership of the Durrow/Cullohill Parish anglers. Membership for season 2014 is now due.
The club wishes Pat Dunphy and Tommy Coffey the best of good luck when they compete in the All-Ireland pike fishing competition to be held in early April.
DURROW TIDY TOWNS
Clean up Laois Week is being held from April 7 -11 and Durrow Tidy Towns ask all residents of Durrow to make a special effort during that week to pick litter in your area.
Durrow Fado Writers Group
Durrow Fado Writers Group which has formed recently is currently writing a play based on a true local love story. They meet on a weekly basis and their ambition is to have the play performed outdoors later in the year. It is a very exciting and daunting project and if anyone who would like to help or get involved in any capacity, it would be greatly appreciated.
Community Endeavour Award
The Community Endeavour Award was presented on behalf of Durrow Development Forum by Evelyn Clancy and was awarded to Gay Lalor who has just retired from Durrow Fire Brigade. Gay joined the fire service in 1967 and was promoted to station officer in 1986 taking over from Bobby Hovendon. He is currently the longest serving fireman in Ireland with 47 years’ service. In addition to his years as station officer, Gay has been a fire service instructor for many years. He is also an award-winning scarecrow fabricator.
Also, Gay was one of the first people in Durrow to obtain a first aid qualification and became an instructor for the Happy Heart foundation, again providing instruction all over the country. In his spare time, he is a Meals on Wheels volunteer and coordinator and installer of home alarms for the elderly. Gay also has generously and selflessly allowed his name be used as emergency contact in many homes.
OUR LADYS MEADOW SCHOOL
On Friday, April 4, a mobile planetarium will visit Our Lady’s Meadow Primary School. Through their generosity, the school is able to reduce the cost of the visit to just €2 for each child.

Easter Egg Draw
The Harps Juvenile Committee will be running its annual Easter egg draw again this Easter and tickets will shortly be on sale from all juvenile committee members at €2 each. The draw will take place in O’Connell’s Bar, Cullohill on Easter Sunday night, April 20.
Our group recently received their SQS Excellence Award for 2013, this is the second year running for our group. We are delighted to hold this award and it is a credit to the group, youth members and our scouters who give up their time freely to run the programme a big thank you to all.
Our scout section took part in a national event POW Patrols online weekend recently, the scouts really enjoyed this challenge it was something new and fun to do.
Slieve Bloom Cub County Camp will take place on the weekend of April 4 - 6 in Srahan. On the weekend of April 11 - 13 our Chief Scout Award Beavers will be taking part in their Chief Scout Award Camp, also in Srahan.
