Supporting children bereaved by suicide will be the theme of the Midlands regional meeting of the Irish Childhood Bereavement Network (ICBN) in Portlaoise.
The event will take place at the Killeshin Hotel, on September 8, between 10am - 1pm. Professionals including social workers, palliative care staff, bereavement counsellors, clinical psychologists, teachers, and guidance counsellors are invited to attend.
Colette Lynskey, counselling co-ordinator with Console and Siobhán Walsh, children’s counsellor with Console will both deliver talks on the day. There will also be an introduction to the ICBN by national co-ordinator, Nicola Jordan.
Research carried out in 2012 found that 28% of Irish nine-year-olds have lost a grandparent and 2.2% have lost a parent.
