Wedding bells rang out in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Stradbally on Friday, October 17 on the occasion of the marriage between Sinead Gannon, daughter of Tommy and Jane, Rathmore, Stradbally and Brian Fearon, son of Veronica Brankin and the late Aidan, Portadown, Armagh.

The nuptial mass was performed by Fr. Sean Kelly, and the music was provided by Aine and Mairead Carroll and friend Deirdre (playing guitar, harp and flute). The bride was attended by her maid of honour Marguerite Harrison and the bridesmaid was Jessica King. The flowergirls were Ellie May Fearon, Allanah Brankin and Kathlynn King.

The bestman was Colm Carmichael while Barry Judge was the groomsman and the pageboy was Eathan Brankin. Ushers were John Gannon and Aidan Brankin.

The reception for 180 guests was held in the Ormond Hotel, Kilkenny and the happy couple are spending their honeymoon in Portugal.

Applications from local clubs, charities and associations are being accepted seeking funding from proceeds of Residents Tickets from this years event. Organisations must submit application detailing what they propose to spend any potential donation on in the year ahead. Applications will be accepted up to closing date on Friday, November 7, addressed to Carmel Dillon, Secretary Electric Picnic Residents Committee, 10 Church Avenue, Stradbally. Strictly no late applications will be accepted.

The Annual Christmas demonstration is on December 10 in St. Josephs Hall and this year’s demonstration will be given by Christine Hughes, from Blessington.

The Annual Christmas Party Night is booked for December 13 in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise and the guest entertainer on the night is Damian Bowe. Anyone wishing to attend the Dinner please give your name to the committee as soon as possible as places are limited.


Stradbally Flower and Garden Club are helping out with this very worthy project and anyone wishing to take part by giving a Shoebox with Christmas gifts for the poor children of Africa and Eastern Europe who will not see Santa this year and depend on our generosity.

Knitting Club for adults and children every week in the Stradbally Library. Adults on Tuesday night 6.30pm-8pm. Children Thursday afternoon from 3.45pm until 4.45pm. Free.


A reminder to all that the Laois Scor na nOg competition takes place this year in Mountmellick Community Arts Centre on Friday, November 4. All the usual categories figure and set dancing, singing, instrumental music, ballad singing, drama, recitation and quiz.


Stradbally Parish St Vincent De Paul they are looking for donations that can go on sale in the shop. If you have any unwanted good quality ladies, gents and childrens winter clothing and footwear, they can be dropped off Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm, Saturday 10am to 1pm. Orlagh Mahon , Michelle Fitzpatrick and Frank Smith from the Chernobyl Children International (Portarlington/Stradbally) Group, will travel to Belarus on October 26 to work as part of the Medical Team at Vesnova Orphanage which is 120 miles from the Chernobyl Reactor and in the contaminated zone.

A fund-raising Coffee morning was held in The Anvil Inn Portarlington on Thursday, October 16. Cakes and buns were baked by Transition Year students of Colaiste Iosagain with teacher Ceire Hogan. The event got great support and Michelle, Frank and Orlagh would like to thank all who helped, donated and pledged money.

Leaves Festival
