A new plaque commemorating Laois’ involvement in the events of the First World War will be unveiled in Millview Memorial Park on Remembrance Sunday, November 9.

A new plaque commemorating Laois’ involvement in the events of the First World War will be unveiled in Millview Memorial Park on Remembrance Sunday, November 9.

Chairperson of the War Memorial Committee, Kathleen O’Brien revealed that the plaque is in honour of the local war dead and is being unveiled on the 100th anniversary of WW1. It will be placed next to the existing plaque, which was put up when the memorial moved from Bank Place in 2001.

A wreath-laying and prayer service ceremony will take place on the day at 12pm, with St Joseph’s Accordion Band to be present as well as the Post 27 United Veterans Association.
