Sunday, March 8 was Confirmation day in Borris in Ossory for the boys and girls from St. Joseph’s N.S. Borris in Ossory and Killadooley N. S. Forty two candidates were confirmed by Most Rev. Dr. Seamus Freeman, Bishop of Ossory, who asked their parents, guardians and sponsors to guide and support them during their teenage years. The Parish Priest Rev. Fr Jackie Robinson thanked everyone who helped in any way to prepare the young people for this special day, especially their parents, guardians, teachers and sponsors. He also thanked all those who took part in the ceremony, the readers, Eucharistic ministers, the choir under the musical direction of Patricia Scott, organist Teresa Flanagan and all the musicians, Sr. Regina and Carol Giles, church caretakers and car park attendants.


First Confessions will take place in St. Canice’s Church, Borris-in-Ossory on Tuesday March 24 at 8 p.m. and in Killasmeestia Church on Wednesday March 25 at 7.30 p.m.


Enrolment for the A.S.D. Special Class is now taking place for September 2015 for St. Joseph’s N.S. Borris in Ossory. Anyone interested in enrolling their child should call 0505 41331 or call in person to the school during school hours 9.20am to 3pm.


The death took place on Tuesday February 24 peacefully at Portlaoise Regional Hospital of Sr Sarah Hogan, (Presentation Sisters), Conoboro Road, Rathdowney, Co. Laois and formerly Hobart, Tasmania.

The late Sr. Sarah was a native of Coolowley, Errill. She joined the Presentation order of nuns at a young age and spent most of her life in Tasmania, Australia. She returned to Ireland to retire six years ago. She is deeply regretted by her brothers Tommy and Billy, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Rest in Peace


The death took place recently in New Zealand of Mrs Betty Hetherington (neeѐ) Jestin, late of Sentry Hill, Borris in Ossory. The late Betty is deeply regretted by her daughter Gaye, son in law Ricky, grandchildren Evangeline and Lucian, brother Martin, sister Valerie, extended family, relatives and friends. Her Funeral Service and internment took place in New Zealand and a memorial service took place in St. Mark’s Church, Borris in Ossory on Sunday March 8.

Parish SOCIaL

The monthly Parish Social will take place in Killasmeestia Community Centre on this Friday night March 20 with music by J & S. Sound. Dancing will be from 9.30pm to 12.30am and supper will be served.


The Defibrillator Group would like to thank all 16 people who trained on the recent First Aid Course. The course ran over five weeks and each night had maximum attendance. Thanks to Laois Partnership for providing the course and to the trainer Greg Duggan for making it so interesting. Also thanks to the FAS Office in Borris in Ossory and the Knockaroo Community Centre committee for the kind use of their facilities.

Girls Football Registration 2015

Registration for 2015 will take place in Canice’s Hall on Friday 20th March from 7-9pm. All girls aged 7 upwards are welcome to join. Registration fee is 15 euro for under 10 players and 35 euro for under 12/14 players.


Rathdowney Golf Club will hold its Annual fund raising Table Quiz in the Clubhouse on Friday March 20th at 8.30pm sharp. The cost is €40 per table. Lots of fabulous spot prizes to be won on the night. Bring your friends test your knowledge. This will be a fun night out. Your support as always would be greatly appreciated.


The Irish Society for Autism is holding the Annual Church Gate Collection in Borris-in-Ossory Parish on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March.
