THE LATE SEAN MURPHY RIP
The death took place at Tallaght Hospital, Dublin on Wednesday May 13 of Mr. Sean Murphy, Derrin, Borris in Ossory, Co. Laois.
His remains reposed at Guilfoyle’s Funeral Home, Castletown, Mountrath until removal on Saturday evening to St. Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sunday 17th. May with burial immediately afterwards in Knockaroo cemetery.
The late Sean, who was predeceased by his brother Michael only last October, is deeply regretted by his loving sister Maura, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
SOCIAL SERVICES MEETING
At a recent meeting of Borris in Ossory Social Services committee, votes of sympathy were passed with the families of the late Joe Doheny, St Canice’s Terrace, Borris in Ossory, the late Mick Campion, Knockaroo and the late Sean Murphy, Derrin, Borris in Ossory. Plans for the Bealtaine party on Saturday May 23 were finalised and details of the annual outing were also discussed. The bus for the outing, to take place on June 24, is now full. Reports were given on the laundry, chiropody and meals on wheels services.
To honour the service given to the Borris in Ossory area, by the recently retired, Dr Seamus Fitzgerald and his wife Noreen, a night of celebration has been organised. It will take place in Racket Hall Hotel, Roscrea, on this Friday night 29th May. All are welcome to share in this celebration. The function will commence at 8.30 and refreshments will be provided.

Hospice Sunflower Day is one of the most popular fundraising events in Laois each year and is a major source of income for Laois Hospice. It is now in its 25th year. Laois Hospice Sunflower Day 2015 will take place on Friday, June 5 throughout the county. 1916 RISING Grants
Grants are now available for community groups and organisations planning to organise events or projects relating to the Centenary of the 1916 Rising. The Ireland 2016 Laois Community Grants are being administered by Laois County Council, with funding and support from Ireland 2016, part of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Detail of grants including application forms and criteria are on the website of Laois County Council at www.laois.ie. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is June 12.
South Laois Tourism will launch a tourism information point at Topaz/Supermacs Service Station Junction 3 Ballacolla on Sunday ,May 31 at 12 noon. Special guest Ireland rubgy International Alison Miller. The Launch will be followed by Walk at Grantstown Lake.
