The Cuisle cancer Support Centre church gate collection takes place at Rathdowney Church on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May. Your continued support would be much appreciated .


There was no winner in this week’s Jackpot which was €10,150. The numbers drawn were 10, 16, 22, 27. The 10 winners of €15 were Roisin Kavanagh, Nicola Ryan, Justin Kavanagh, Jer Rafter, Margaret O Dea, Lisa Corrigan, Betty Cummins, Amy Stanley, Liam & Joan Hayes, Margaret Nelson. Next week’s Jackpot will be €10,300. Tickets can be purchased in all shops or from any local promoter.


First Holy Communion will take place in Rathdowney Parish on Sunday, May 31.


South Laois Tourism will launch a tourism information point at Topaz/Supermacs Service Station Junction 3 Ballacolla on Sunday, May 31 at 12 noon. Special guest Ireland rubgy International Alison Miller. The Launch will be followed by Walk at Grantstown Lake.

A paediatric first aid course will take place in Rathdowney on June 6. The course is child specific and will cover emergency plans for accidents involving a child. Topics include: chocking, burns, CPR, fractures, bleeding, medical emergencies etc. Each participant will receive a book on Paediatric First Aid. Calf Championship, Crossbred Belgian blue championship, Working Hunter Championship, Vintage, Sidesaddle, Cookery Demonstration, Home Produce and side shows. Other attractions : Cattle, Sheep, Horses, Poultry, Craft, Eggs, Flowers, Baking, Jams, Sewing, Knitting, Vegetables, Photography, Flower arrangements. Junior classes, most suitable dressed lady and gentleman on show day. Little Miss Ossory, most suitable dressed boy on show day. Fun dog show, trade stands, music and lost more. A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.

Laois Hospice

Hospice Sunflower Day is one of the most popular fundraising events in Laois each year and is a major source of income for Laois Hospice. It is now in its 25th year. Laois Hospice Sunflower Day 2015 will take place on Friday, June 5 throughout the county. 1916 RISING Grants

Grants are now available for community groups and organisations planning to organise events or projects relating to the Centenary of the 1916 Rising. The Ireland 2016 Laois Community Grants are being administered by Laois County Council, with funding and support from Ireland 2016, part of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Detail of grants including application forms and criteria are on the website of Laois County Council at www.laois.ie. The closing date for receipt of completed applications is June 12.
