A SERIES of meetings start this week in Portarlington as part of the project to plan for the town’s development.

As part of the Portarlington Community Development Association’s (PCDA) 2020 Vision project, which aims to establish an eight-year plan of economic and social growth, the PCDA are inviting all residents, businesses, and institutions in the area to share their thoughts on the future.

As part of the process, the group are holding four free workshops starting next week. The first meeting will be on community resilience and will be held next Wednesday, September 7, at 7.30pm in the community centre, Link Rd. The speaker will be Davie Phillips, of Cultivate Ireland.

The next workshop will be the following Wednesday, September 14, when Damien Brennan of Failte Ireland will give a talk on developing tourism. On September 21, Ronan O’Farrell of UCC will talk on education, while on Monday, October 3, Peter Young of the Irish Farmers Journal will discuss the agri sector. All workshops are at 7.30pm.

Following the consultation process, the final report will be published on December 2. For more information, visit the website www.portarlingtoncommunity.com, or call 057 8645728.
