a LAOIS TD is concerned that new and increased school transport charges will further penalise families in Laois.
New charges of €50 for primary school children and an increase of €50 for those attending secondary, add to the already spiralling education costs, accordting to Brian Stanley TD.
“The recent changes to the school transport schemes will cause significant financial problems for rural families and those living in smaller towns and villages across Laois/Offaly. When added to other escalating costs, they will cause real hardship for many families,” he said.
Deputy Stanley said the new requirement that ten pupils, instead of seven at present, will be required to establish and retain a rural school bus route will in time also cause difficulties for those with young families living in isolated areas.
