THE Portlaoise Educate Together National School had a very special visitor to the school last week. Sinead Fennell, the outgoing Laois Rose, came to visit the students as a special guest on their Lá Glas, as part of Seachtain na Gaelige.
Sinead was greeted by a sea of green as students and staff had all worn green, and was entertained with some Irish dancing from one of the junior infant classes, who had been practicing all week for the visit. The Laois Rose then took some questions from the students about what it took to become a Rose, and what the responsibiltites of the role were.
Principal Gerry Breslin commented, “We are really happy to welcome Sinéad to the school today, especially as this is her last official appointment as Laois Rose. The children were very excited, and they enjoyed learning and practicing thier Irish dancing. This has been a wonderful conclusion to a very busy Seachtain na Gaeilge.”
