Daffodil Day was very well supported in Borris in Ossory and surrounding areas and thanks is extended to all who donated so generously. A huge effort was put in by all the volunteers who gave their time for this worthwhile cause. The full amount collected will be announced next week.


The competition for the Margaret Delaney Kirwan Trophy was held on Tuesday February 21 and the winners were: Michael Murray and Molly Bates.

The winners of the competition held on Tuesday Feb 28 were - 1st Michael Murray and Molly Bates, 2nd Kathleen Phelan and Nuala Costello, 3rd Irene Delaney and Teresa Butler. The competition held on Tuesday March 13 resulted as follows - 1st Ann Kruse and Enda Fitzpatrick, 2nd Breda Kennedy and Maureen Delaney, 3rd Stella Kealy and Pat Kelly.


The Annual General Meeting of Borris in Ossory ICA Guild will take place on next Wednesday night April 4. The Federation Information Officer Betty Gorman will be in attendance at the AGM. Members are reminded that the meeting will start at the later time of 8.30pm.


The 4 Month Draw in aid of Knockaroo Church Renovation Fund is taking place again this year. There will be cash prizes - 1st prize - €1000, 2nd prize - €300, 3rd prize – €100. The draws will take place on the last Friday of each month, beginning in April. The subscription is €10 per month or €40 for the four months. There will be a special prize of €200 on the first night for fully paid up members and a promoter’s prize of €100 per month. The draws will take place on April 27, May 25, June 29 and July 27 in St Canice’s Parish Hall, Borris in Ossory.


A bus will travel to Knock Shrine, Co Mayo for Divine Mercy Sunday on April 15. The bus will be in the Square, Rathdowney at 8am, Borris in Ossory at 8.30am and Roscrea at 9am. For further details contact Michael Sutcliffe at 089-4620860.


The Borris in Ossory Women’s Walking Group are holding a Shave, Wax or Dye event on Saturday night March 31 in Rosie O’Grady’s, Borris in Ossory in aid of Laois Sports Partnership, providing Sport and Physical activities for people with disabilities in Laois. There will be several Laois hurlers, members of neighbouring GAA clubs and local men allowing trained staff to Shave, Wax or Dye them to raise funds for this worthy cause. Please support this cause by sponsoring the lads and attending the event on what promises to be a fun and entertaining night.


The results of last week’s Progressive 25 Drive in the O’Brien Hall were as follows 1st - Marie Quinn and Murt Ryan, Michelle Fitzpatrick and Edward Kenny, 2nd - P.J.Holohan and Michael Muldowney, Michael Murphy and Jack Maher, 3rd - Mary Kelly and Joe Cass, 10th game - Tom and Sheila Ryan, 20th game – Paddy Dunphy and Larry O’Mahony. Raffle winners were - Mary Maher, Lucy Bergin, Peter Delaney and Michael Muldowney.

The Progressive 25 Drive will continue next Thursday night in the O’Brien Hall at 9pm.


The final of the Girls Poool Tournament took place during the week between Dawn Barry and Emer Dunne. It was a very close and entertaining final which ended in a win for Emer by three frames to two. Both players were presented with winners and runner up trophies.

The 50th International Eucharistic Congress will take place in the RDS, Dublin from June 10 to June 16 2012 with the closing ceremonies taking place in Croke Park on Sunday June 17. The Parish is organising a bus to the Eucharistic Congress on Tuesday June 12. Names and phone numbers should be written into the book provided in the church porch so that the number of people interested can be determined.


Killasmeestia Cemetery is looking very well at present and great credit is due to the Tidy Towns Committee who have done such great work in the village and the cemetery. However, the committee have requested that all withered flowers / old Christmas wreaths etc be removed from graves in the cemetery.
