BALLYQUAID MASS PIT
The annual Mass at the Mass Pit in Ballyquaid will be celebrated on this Wednesday evening August 15, the Feast of the Assumption at 7.30pm. This ancient and historic place of worship was restored seven years ago by a dedicated volunteers and the annual Mass attracts large crowds each year, reminding us of the sacrifices and risks made by our ancestors in rder to attend Mass during Penal times.

All eyes will be on RTE 1’s “The Big Money Game” this Saturday night when Geraldine Kealy, Sentry Hill, will be one of the contestants. Best of luck
A public meeting took place in St Canice’s Hall on Thursday night August 9 with a view to the development of a Playground in the village. The cost of the Playground will be approx €85,000 (incl VAT). It is hoped that most of the cost will be grant aided but there will have to be some local contribution. Committee members and volunteers plan to drop an envelope to every house in the village and surrounding areas whereby people can make a voluntary donation to help with the much needed funds. They will then be collected on Friday 17th August. It is also planned to hold further fundraising events including a Church Gate Collection at all Parish Churches, a Cabaret and Raffle. All donations will be accepted and greatly appreciated.

LATE RENA DOBBYN
The death took place at her residence on Wednesday August 8 of Mrs Agnes (Rena) Dobbyn, (nee Delaney), Foxhill, Athy, formerly of Moneymore, Borris-in-Ossory,. Her remains were removed from Rigney’s Funeral Home, Athy on Thursday August 9 to St. Michael’s Parish Church, Athy. Following Requiem Mass on Friday burial took place in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Athy. The late Rena, who had suffered a long illness is deeply regretted by her husband P.J. sons Peter, David and Glenn, daughters Karen and Linda, brother Micheal Delaney, Moneymore, Borris-in-Ossory, sisters Essie Costigan, Dublin, Violet Carroll, Killenure and Una Dooley, Castle Avenue, Borris-in-Ossory, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
LATE GLADYS MURPHY
The death took place on Thursday August 9 at Tullamore Hospital of Mrs Gladys Murphy, (nee Reid), Hillside, Kilcoke, Ballybrophy,. Her remains reposed at her residence until removal to St. Andrew’s Church, Rathdowney on Friday evening. Funeral Service took place on Saturday August 11 followed by Burial in St. Mary’s Churchyard, Johnstown. The late Gladys, who was predeceased by her husband George, will be sadly missed by her family Gina, Myrtle, Brian, David, Dorcas, Irene, Alan, Mervyn and Keith, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends. She was a dedicated wife and mother who reared a large family and worked hard on the family farm with her late husband George. She also made time for voluntary and charitable work and was involved in several local organisations. As testament to this, a guard of honour was formed at her funeral by members of the Ossory Agricultural Show Society, members of Borris-in-Ossory ICA Guild led by Federation President Betty Gorman and by members of Rathdowney Mothers Union.
A very successful BBQ was held at Rosie O’rady’s on Sunday, August 5. Music was supplied by local artists and friends. Linda Moylan was the lucky winner of the Door Prize. Raffle winners:, Theresa Whelan, John Gaffney, Olive Dunphy, Mark Devlin, John Origan, David Scully, Joe Moore, Roisin Scully, Vincent Doheny and Louise Nolan. Thanks to all who helped out on the day, the musicians, sponsors, all who bought tickets and all who donated prizes.
