BALLYQUAID MASS PIT
The seventh annual Mass at Ballyquaid Mass Pit will take place on Wednesday August 15 at 7.30 pm. The ancient Mass Pit was used to celebrate Mass during the penal times when public Masses were not allowed. A committee of local interested people restored it.
An altar was constructed, a wooden canopy was erected over the altar, thatched by local craftsmen just as the original chapel was a thatched structure, almost three centuries ago.
The altar is enclosed by railings and a wooden gate. This annual thanksgiving Celebration of the Mass on the feast of the Assumption is offered in memory of our late forefathers who kept alive the faith and risked their lives in order to attend Mass. All are welcome to attend this special Mass.
Urgent appeal for drivers to deliver meals on wheels, only 20 hours in the year so hopefully you can help us, we would hate to have to give up this service. Thank you to all our wonderful drivers some who have been with us for more than 20 years. Contact Gina on 087 2454722.
