Mountrath GAA are running strictly come dancing on Friday 25th October in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise for the re-development fund for the clubrooms and playing field. 15 couples across the community are taking part in this competition which will be a night of fun filled, family entertainment not to be missed.

Heritage week WWII Friday 23rd 10.30am–11:30am (FREE) An interactive history show for children. Learn about World War II by examining weaponry, dressing up in uniforms and listening to interesting stories about life during the war. Places are limited. Booking essential. Condolences to the family of the late Martin Lawlor of Killiney, Co. Dublin and formerly of Trumera who died on July 19 (peacefully), at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin. Darling husband to Carmel predeceased by his loving son Kenneth Michael and brother Richard; he will be very sadly missed by his loving wife, sisters Anne, Mary and Patricia, extended family, relatives and friends. Removal to the Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Killiney for Requiem Mass. Funeral immediately afterwards to Deansgrange Cemetery.

High Nelly Event

Camross High Nelly Club wish to extend awarm welcome to everyone in support of this year’s Gathering Event in aid of the “MuirIosa Project Mountrath”. On Saturday evening August 3 in conjuction with the Camross and Mountrath GAA clubs we are holding an U/10 and over 30’s hurling matches.

The matches are being held in Camross hurling field at 5pm, refreshments to follow in The Camross Inn.

The following day Sunday, August 4 we are holding our Guinness Book of Records Highest High Nelly Challenge. Registration €10 per person & will be at 12.30pm SHARP IN Camross Village(Transport for cyclists and bike provided to The Cut). The cycle will be held from The Cut(Slieve Blooms) all the way down to Camross Village. The cycle is approx. 23.2kms from start to finish. We will have a short stop in Roundwood house for light refreshments. BBQ after the event in The Camross Inn with lots of entertainment. We ask people to come out to support The MuirIosa Centre who do great work for families with special needs children and adults.

Congrats to Mairead Feehan, Mountrath who won €200 in the annual pioneer draw.

LAOIS HEART FOUNDATION

The Mountrath branch of the Laois heart foundation will hold there monthly meeting in the Cosy Cafe at 8 p.m on Wednesday August 14. All are welcome

LADIES FOOTBALL

Training for girls Gaelic Football continues at the changed venue of Burke’s Field, Shannon Rd, Mountrath (200 yards on right after end of footpath).

Training every Monday evening at 5.30pm for all girls aged 5 up to 10 yrs old. We are very keen to encourage new members to join.

Subscriptions are €2 per week.

LIBRARY NEWS

The knitting club continues to meet every Friday morning 10:30-12:30pm all welcome.

OUTDOOR GYM

The outdoor gym in the local amenity park can be used by all ages. We would encourage all local clubs and groups to use this facility.

DOG FOULING

Dog fouling is a growing litter problem. Local awareness to identify the dog owners is required. Please contact the Council’s free phone litter hotline @ 1800 323230 with specific details if witnessed i.e. name and address of dog owner, location, time and date. Thank you.
