A WEEE public collection Day will take place on Saturday, October 19 in the MDA carpark, 10am to 4pm. Any household items with a plug or battery are accepted.


Mission Alive is holding a fundraiser dance from 10pm to midnight in the Rock GAA Club on Friday October 11 , music kindly provided by Tom McDonald. Tickets €10 available from committee members and the parish office. Please support, all proceeds to the AIDS/HIV Orphan Project in Zambia.


On Saturday October 26 a reunion of all people associated with the Rock, past and present, will take place in the Rock GAA clubhouse at 9pm, featuring a photographic exhibition, old video footage, a guest speaker, and craic agus ceoil into the early hours. The Cuisle Cancer Support Centre thanks the individuals and organisations who donated to the centre on the occasion of the death of Leo Dunne on October 9 2012. Sponsorship money for the women’s mini marathon was also received from Sheelagh Coyle. The total contributed was €1,370. The centre thanks all of you for your generosity. First anniversary mass of beloved member Leo Dunne is on Thursday October 10 at 7.30pm in St Joseph’s church. 

Registration for children joining the Macra panto is on Sunday October 20, 6pm to 7pm in the Macra hall, €10 once off fee required. Public speaking, impromptu public speaking and bowling are the upcoming competitions. Badminton continues in the Macra Hall each Monday and Wednesday, if interested contact Trevor on 087 9143226. Rehearsals for Capers, a short variety show competition will take place soon. To join or enter a competition call 087 6962626.


The rosary will be recited each Sunday night at 7pm during the month of October in Castlebrack cemetery. All welcome to attend.

The Library will host a Europe Direct Soapbox regional final competition on Thursday October 17 at 7.30pm. Calling all debaters to argue for or against the topic ‘Citizens are at the heart of the EU’ and be in with a chance to win an ipad and a trip to Brussels. Full details

The death occurred of Eddie Parkinson of Wolfe Tone Court on Thursday September 26. Eddie had spent the greater part of his life in England and returned to his hometown 13 years ago, his passing is sadly regretted by all who knew him. Remains reposed at his residence until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Saturday morning. Requiem mass was celebrated at 10am with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The sincere sympathy of the community is extended to Eddie’s sister-in-law Bridie, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends on his passing.


The death of Tony Coss, formerly of Kirwan Park, on Thursday September 26 occasioned much sadness. Tony will be most fondly remembered by all who knew him. Remains reposed at Moloney’s Funeral Home until removal on Sunday morning to St Joseph’s Church. Requiem mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery. The deepest sympathy of the community is extended to Phyllis, Yvonne and Carol, Tony’s mother Margaret, his brothers and sister, relatives and friends on their bereavement.

Late Michael o’Neill

Funeral for the late Michael ‘Krangie’ O’Neill who died suddenly on September 17, will take place in Worcester Park, Surrey this Thursday, October 10. A Remembrance mass will be held in St Joseph’s Church, Mountmellick on Sunday October 13 at 6.30pm. Michael is sadly mourned by his wife Ann, children Lenore, Stephanie, Joseph, Susan and Daniel, sisters, brother, grandchildren family and many friends.
