THE LATE JOAN BEHAN-DEMPSEY

Deepest sympathy is extended to Gerry Kelly, The Mill, Stradbally on the sudden and unexpected death of his partner Joan Behan-Dempsey, formerly of 43 Sarto Park, Naas and Carbury. Her remains were reposing at her home until removal on Thursday to the Holy Trinity Church, Derrinturn, Carbury and following funeral mass her remains were interred in adjoining cemetery. To her extended family we tender our deepest sympathy.

COFFEE MORNING

A sincere thank you to all who supported the recent coffee morning in aid of Laois Hospice Foundation in St Patricks Hall, Stradbally.

Thank you to all who helped and donated in any way. Your generous contribution is much appreciated. The amount raised was €1675.

WHIST DRIVE

The next whist drive in St Patrick’s Hall is on Friday, October 18 at 8.30pm and all players welcome.

FLU VACCINE

The flu vaccine will be available in the Stradbally Medical Practice on the Court Square on Friday, October 11, between 9am and 12 noon. The pneumonia vaccine is also available. No appointment is necessary. Please bring along your medical card if applicabe. Risk groups include all those over 65, chronic illness, pregnant women, etc.

VICARSTOWN RECEATION GROUP

Walking from the bridge every Wednesday at 8pm. All are welcome.

DRAMA WORKSHOPS FOR ADULT

Informal and fun drama workshops for grown ups. Starting in Stradbally on Wednesdays in St Patrick’s Hall (opposite Napper Tandy), from 7pm - 9pm, €5 workshop. No experience required. Remember to wear comfortable clothes. Come along and give it a go. All enquiries to Siobhán Coffey at 086 3300943.

FAMILY DAY

Annanough GAA family day will be held on Sunday, October 13 in Vicarstown. The day starts with a fun run/walk, in aid of the juvenile club. €10 adults, kids free, registration from 12.45pm, starts at 2pm. All are welcome.

VICARSTOWN YOUTH CLUB

The Vicarstown Youth Club registration night will take place on Monday, October 14 between 7 - 8pm for children from senior infants to 6th class in the community centre in Vicarstwon. Depending on level of interest, waiting list may apply.

PRAYER MEETING

A prayer meeting is held every Monday night at 8pm in the Presentation Convent Chapel.

TIMAHOE NATIONAL SCHOOL

Thanks to all who supported our night at the dogs fundraiser for the school last Friday in Newbridge.

ELDERLY

Please spare a thought for the elderly and vulnerable in our community coming into the autumn winter period, check on their heating and assist where you can.

Jack Carter talks about Laois

Dr Jack Carter will give a talk on the built and natural heritage of Laois and the evictions at Luggacurren at the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, on Thursday, October 17, at 8pm. This is part of the autumn programme of talks organised by Laois Heritage Society. Dr Carter is a well-known historian and author. All are welcome and admission is free.
