Mega Tractor & Truck Pull

The finals of the All Ireland Tractor and Truck Pulling Championships will be held on Sunday, October 13, in Rathdowney. This promises to be a great day’s entertainment with classes including Farm Class, Super Farm Class, Modified Class, Truck Class and Tuned Truck Class. Pulling starts at 12pm. There will be children’s entertainment on the day. All enquiries contact Darren on 087 1374517.

EASYRIDERS

Presentation night from this year’s 280km charity cycle to Donegal will be held in Ian Maher’s on Saturday October 19 at 9pm. Music by DJ Noel Brennan. All welcome.

GAA LOTTO

There was no winner in this week’s jackpot which was €9,550. The 10 winners of €15 were Johnny Bowe, Caoimhe & John Nolan, Beata Dliobel, John Whelan, Jim Holohan, Margaret Creagh, Liam & Cillian, Cathy Fitzgerald, Mick Hickey, Sally Whelan. Next week’s jackpot will be €9,700. Tickets can be purchased from all shops or any local promoter.

STORYTELLING FESTIVAL

Takes place from Thursday, October 10 to Saturday October 12. This year’s special guests are Paddy O’Brien from Cork and Jack Lynch from Dublin. Shows starts at 8pm each night. Thursday 10, Roundwood House, Mountrath, Friday 11, Leap Castle, Saturday 12, Leap Castle. Each night’s show will also include some singers and musicians. Tickets for each night are available by phoning Chris Byrne at 086 2789147.

A great bingo is held every Tuesday night at 8.30pm in the Rathdowney Community Centre.

MEN’S SHED

would like to thank Finola Colgan from Aware and Storm Powell from Laois Partnership for the recent talk on Mental Health awareness that was held in Rathdowney’s Men’s Shed. This talk was very well attend with members of the Men’s Shed and visiting Sheds along with members from Rathdowney Active Retirement. The talk was followed by refreshments. The Men’s Shed is on every Thursday morning from 10am to 12 noon at the old convent school. Upcoming events include art lessons commencing later this month. New members welcome every week.

RATHDOWNEY REVIEW

The 29th annual Rathdowney Review magazine is currently being compiled and will be in the shops around the first week of December 2013. As in previous years we depend on the public to submit items of interest. Please arrange for your photo or article to reach either Maureen Guilfoyle, Betty O’Brien or Niall O’Doherty as soon as possible. Deadline for submissions is the last week of October.

OSSORY CYCLING CLUB

Turbo training classes will commence on Wednesday October 9 in the Marion centre at 8pm sharp. The only criteria is that you must have your own turbo trainer.

Cost of training €1 per night.

On Sunday October 27, Ossory Cycling Club are holding a 70K leisure cycle starting and finishing in Errill village. Entry fee is a donation. This will be strictly a controlled event, max speed of 25Km per hour or 15 mph. Start time 11am. The route is Clonmore, Templemore, Roscrea, Borris in Ossory, Rathdowney. There will be a barbecue for cyclists at the end.

PARENT & TODDLER GROUP

Meet on Friday mornings 10am - 12pm in the Marion Centre. All welcome, parents and minders with children from new born to pre-school age.
