On Sunday, February 16 last the Irish Fly Fishing and Game Shooting Museum in Attanagh was honoured with a visit from Qiao Li, (wife of Luo Linquan, Chinese Ambassador to Ireland) and a delegation from the Chinese community of Ireland. Walter Phelan, Proprietor and residents from Attanagh welcomed the party. Philip Sheppard introduced Walter who gave an extensive talk on some of the major figures who were catalysts in the history of hunting, shooting and fishing, drawing analogies to China. A presentation was made to Qiao Li of the book Letters of my Brother John’s Life in the Clondike. The delegation were then shown around the museum. Afterwards the Chinese delegation proceeded to the Wheel Inn, Ballyouskill where a large crowd of locals greeted them and they were escorted by a party of horse riders organised by Sean Doheny. Mr Frank Brennan, proprietor provided a rousing reception for the visitors. A younger representative from the Chinese delegation sang a beautiful rendition of the song Marble Halls and expressed deep thanks for the heart warming welcome received from everyone. A presentation of a painting depicting a Chinese dragon was then presented to Qiao Li.
