The 30th edition of the Rathdowney Review is currently being compiled and will on sale from December 1. nyone who has anything they wish to be published in the review should contact Betty O Brien, Maureen Guilfoyle or Niall O Doherty. The closing date is the end of October but the committee would appreciate any material to be submitted as soon as possible. The review especially welcomes weddings, anniversaries, graduations, sporting achievements, family profiles, poems etc. The 30th edition is expected to fill up very quickly. The committee wish to thank everyone who was involved with the Rathdowney Review in any way over the past 30 years.
The Rathdowney Girl Guide Units have enjoyed a very busy 2014 to-date. The Ladybird, Brownie, Guide and Young Leaders units marked their 30th Anniversary in the town by hosting a Gang Show (Variety Show) in the community centre in April. The National President, Regional Commissioner, neighbouring guiding units, parents and friends enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment. During the summer the Guides and Young Leaders took part in a regional camp in Camross, the brownies enjoyed their weekend away in the brownie cottage in Broadford and the Ladybirds had great fun day making fairy houses in the Templemore Park. To begin the thirty first year of Guiding in Rathdowney the Unit leaders are holding a registration night in the Marian Centre, Rathdowney, on Friday 26, September. Ladybirds and Brownies at 7.30pm. The Ladybird unit is full at present, names will be put on a waiting list on the night. Guides and Young Leaders at 8pm. The unit leaders look forward to welcoming back last years’ members, meeting new members and beginning another busy year of guiding in Rathdowney

CYMS Rathdowney CYMS snooker & billard hall be holding their AGM on September 24, all are welcome to attend. The hall will re-open for the winter on September 29, we hope to see all of last year’s members and some new members also. Membership will be due from September 29, adults €20 juveniles €10, family €30. We look forward to meeting everyone again and for your valued support.

Late Donal DOWLING
Condolences to the family of the late Donal Dowling, Daly Tce, Rathdowney who died on September 14 peacefully at Portlaoise hospital. Predeceased by his wife Cathy, he is deeply regretted by his family, Margaret, Michael and Pat, sisters Mary-Ann and Lil and his brother Liam, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Reposed at his residence. Removal to the Church of the Holy Trinity, Rathdowney for Funeral Mass followed by burial in Bealady Cemetery.
