The Christmas lights are going up around the town. The Abbeyleix & District Lions Club would like to thank you for your support for the Christmas lights. The massive effort by a dedicated few helps the town to shine brighter year after year and encourages visitors but without the support of local people and businesses in Abbeyleix the Christmas lights would not be possible. There will be a church gate collection on November 29 and Sunday 30 of November. The lights will be switched on the December 6. Fr Ahern and Rev Harvey and David Wellwood, local president of the Abbeyleix lions will perform the light switch on
The Abbeyleix Christmas Market & Craft Fair takes place on the Market Square, on Saturday, December 6 from 4pm – 8pm. Now its 4th consecutive year, the Christmas Market – which is presented by Abbeyleix Business & Community Development Forum (ABC) will launch the festive season and the town’s ‘Shop Local’ campaign. The market will be a hive of activity with lots of entertainment promised. Over 40 traders will be selling a host of crafts, festive food, treats and Christmas gift ideas. Live entertainment programme throughout the evening with entertainment being provided by local musicians and choirs. Among the many popular features due to make a welcome return to the market are the switching on of the Christmas lights by Abbeyleix & district Lions Club. The hardworking committee have again pulled out all the stops to ensure over 60 trees will be dressed and ready to Check out the Abbeyleix facebook page. Late Ann MALONE
Condolences to the family of the late Ann Malone (née Burke), Carlow Road, Abbeyleix who died on November 24. Deeply regretted by her loving husband Dick, sons Ronan, Declan and Damien, daughter Marian, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at her residence. Removal to The Church of The Most Holy Rosary, Abbeyleix, for Requiem Mass. Interment afterwards in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

The library is taking names of adults interested in learning Spanish. Price €50 for 8 weeks.’ Hoping to commence in early 2015.
