‘Hairspray’ tickets

Limited tickets for Coláiste Iosagáin’s musical ‘Hairspray’ are still available. The show is at 8pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday December 10, 11 and 12. Tickets €5 for students and €10 Euro for adults, on sale every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 1.30-1.50pm in the school (call 057 86 23407) right up until the day of the show.

Liam Lawton

O Friday December 5 @ 8pm Liam Lawton will be in concert in St. Michael’s Church with St. Michael’s Parish Church Choir also performing on the night. Proceeds in aid of “Supporting Shirley”. Garda Band

The Garda Band concert on Saturday next December 6 from 4 to 6pm in St Michael’s Church Portarlington. The event is Free. Transport will be provided by the Gardai.

Christmas Fair

Christmas Fair in the Community Centre on next Sunday December 7 at 12pm. A variety of trades & crafts available on the day. Bring your little ones to visit Santa’s Grotto. €5 inclusive of gift & photo. Refreshments served, also face painting & entertainment.

Christmas Tree

It’s that time of year again when our hard working Christmas Tree Committee are getting ready for the lighting of our wonderful Tree in the Market Square. This will take place on next Sunday December 7 at 5.30pm. A great evening assured with local entertainment. All are welcome.

Music Extravaganza

After last year’s very successful Concert we are once again having a wonderful music night on Sunday December 14 8pm in the beautiful surroundings of the Heritage Hotel Killenard. Featuring local Musicians & Vocalists. Mulled wine reception at 7pm. This year all proceeds go to the wonderful committee of Portarlington Lions Club who do wonderful work all year, but especially at Christmas. Tickets at a cost of €10 are now available in the Love Port office in the Community Centre, also from members of Portarlington Lion’s Club.

CD Launch

The St.Joseph’s Sunday Choir in Mountmellick will be launching their new CD on Thursday December 11 at 8 in Community Arts Centre ( opposite Credit Union). The CD costs €10. All profits will go to the Cuisle Cancer Support Centre. There are 12 hymns on the CD. It would make a great Christmas gift. The organist and choir director is Audrey Whelan.


Portarlington St V de Paul society would like to thank everyone who supported our Raffle in the Gandon Inn on Friday November 21. Thanks to everyone who sold & bought tickets, and to all those who helped in any way. A special thanks to Maura Porter who made a beautiful large Christmas Cake, and this cake will be raffled on Monday December 8 at our weekly dance. Deepest Sympathy to Michael Walsh on the death of his beloved Mother Daisy Walsh Station Rd & formerly Cappakeel Emo who passed away on Saturday November 15. Daisy will be sadly missed by her loving son Michael, her extended family & friends. Requiem Mass took place in St. Paul’s Church Emo on November 17. Burial after to the new Cemetery Emo.
