Vicarstown Vintage recently presented €2,500 to Jim and Tom Deegan on behalf of the Saplings School for Autism in Graiguecullen. The club thanks all who supported the day. The club looks forward to seeing you all there at next year’s rally on August 23 next.
The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) in Dublin and Laois County Council are hosting the launch of ‘Sitting’ a portraiture residency by Nick Miller on Thursday, December 4. Recipient of the inaugural Hennessy Portrait Prize, Miller was artist in residence in the Laois Arthouse Stradbally last July. He painted pictures of local people. The screening of Sitting a short film by Lisa Fingleton will take place on the opening which takes place in IMMA.
LATE IGNATIUS HOLOHAN
The death occurred on Wednesday, November 26 of Ignatius (Ig) Holohan, Vicarstown Road, Stradbally, (in his 81st year) peacefully surrounded by his loving family at The Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise and in the loving and tender care of the Matron and staff of Droimnin Nursing Home, Stradbally. Beloved husband of the late Ina. Sadly missed by his loving family, daughter Mary, sons Patrick, Michael, Kevin and Andrew, son in law, daughter in law, sister-in-law, brother in law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and his many friends. Reposing at the Presentation Chapel, Stradbally on Thursday evening, until removal to the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally, on Friday evening and following requiem mass on Saturday at 12 noon, his remains were interred in Ratheniska Cemetery.

THE LATE MELVIN DAGG
The death occurred on Monday, November 24 of Melvin Dagg, Luggacurren. Predeceased by his wife Isobel and sister-in-law Gladys (Stone). Passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his son Stuart, daughter-in-law Esther, his grandsons Graeme and his wife Zara, Keith and his partner Cliodhna, his sister Muriel (Percy), his special friend David (Stone), nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. His remains were reposing at Stuart and Esther’s home. Funeral service last Wednesday at the house followed by burial in family burial plot in the old cemetery, Timahoe.

The Christmas demonstration is on December 10 at 8pm in St Joseph’s Hall. Guest is Christine Hughes well known in Blessington and Wicklow area. Christine will make some beautiful flower arrangements for Christmas. All arrangements will be raffled at the end of the evening. Supper will also be served with some lovely cakes and buns. Admission is €8 including supper.The annual Christmas party night is booked for December 13 in the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise and the guest entertainer on the night is Damian Bowe. The death occurred on Tuesday, November 25 of Arthur O’Keeffe, Stradbally and Mallow, Cork (in his 100th year) in the tender care of the staff of Droimnin Nursing Home, Stradbally and late of 5 Rockmount, Mallow, Predeceased by his wife Mamie and his siblings Moss, John, Eddie, Pat, Busty, Bill, Roy, Maureen and Dick. Deeply and deservedly regretted by his sons Pat (Portlaoise), Gerard (Kanturk) and Colman (Malahide), his daughters-in-law Anne and Breda, his grandchildren Niall, Cliona, Niamh, Eoghan and Eamonn, his granddaughter-in-law Allison and his great-grandson Dillon Arthur, his sister-in-law Betty, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Reposed at Droimnin Nursing Home on Wednesday. Lying in repose at O’Connell’s Funeral Home, St James Ave, Mallow on Thursday evening followed by removal to St Mary’s Church, and following requiem mass on Friday burial took place immediately afterwards in St Gobnait’s Cemetery.

Mark the date in your diary, following the outstanding success of their inaugural event, the Park/Ratheniska GAA Club Christmas Cracker returns for 2014. The event will take place on Sunday, December 28 with an all new obstacle course this year, which will stretch over 5k or 10k depending on your preference while still incorporating our 5k for the walkers. We have nominated St Francis School, Portlaoise as our beneficiary this year and we look forward to seeing you all on the day. We plan to officially launch the event in the coming days, so watch this space.
