Community Alert

As you may notice all our Community Alert signs are up now. This involved a huge amount of work for our volunteers and we would like them to know they have our appreciation for their time and effort. We would also like to thank our sponsors without whom this would have been a more difficult job. You are reminded to be vigilant and always report suspicious activity or persons to the Gardai. Ask that a text would be sent out to the Community. The phone number is (057) 86 74100. We all have our part to play in helping to keep our area safe from wrongdoers. Spreading the word through the text system is vital.]

Slieve Bloom Assoc

A well-attended meeting of the Slieve Bloom Association was held in the Green School, Rosenallis on Thursday January 22. The Imbolc Festival will take place on February 1st. We will meet at the carpark in Cadamstown at 2pm to drive up to the Bracket Stones for the usual craic to milk the symbolic goat. This was done in ancient times to ask for suitable weather for planting, growing and harvesting – sun and rain when required. All are welcome to attend. The articles on the Slieve Blooms and the Association for the 40th Anniversary of the Founding of the SBA book have been submitted and it will be on sale from Sunday April 12 at the Celebrations in the Community Centre, Kinnity. The last publication by the Slieve Bloom Association, which was for the 35th anniversary, sold out in days, keep a keen eye out if you wish to buy one as this is a limited edition. The next meeting of the Slieve Bloom Association will be in the ICA Hall, Mountmellick on Thursday February 19 at 8:30pm. If you would like to find out more about us, look us uo on the web at

The PPN is the new framework through which community and voluntary organisations across Laois will connect with and have its say where it matters at local government level. The PPN will be the future means through which local groups and organisations will be consulted by the local authority on local and county matters, and the mechanism through which community representatives will be elected to local authority committees and other bodies in Laois. Let your community group have its say and get registered! Registrations forms and more information on the PPN available online at or email
