The Annual General Meeting of Borris in Ossory Social Services Committee will be held on this Wednesday, April 22 in St Canice’s Hall at 8pm. All members are requested to attend.


Borris in Ossory Tidy Towns/ Development Association have organised a clean-up of several areas of the town as part of this year’s Laois County Council clean up week.

This clean-up will take place today Tuesday, April 21 from 10.30am to 12.30pm, everyone to meet at the Church car park at 10.15am.

The Tidy Towns/ Development Association are asking residents to help out with this voluntary effort to clean up the local area and make it a cleaner environment for all to live in.

The Annual General Meeting of Derrinsallagh Cemetery Committee will take place on Tuesday night April 28 in St Canice’s Hall at 8.30pm. All members are requested to attend.


Sympathy is extended to Mrs Chris O’Reilly and family, Slieve Bloom View, Borris-in-Ossory on the death of her son Gary O’Reilly. His death took place on Sunday April 5(unexpectedly) at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise.

His remains reposed at his home until removal on Friday morning April 10 to St. Canice’s Church, Borris in Ossory for Funeral Mass followed by burial immediately afterwards in the new cemetery. The Funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev Fr Jackie Robinson PP who sympathised with the family on Gary’s unexpected death at such a young age. The late Gary, who was only 29 years old, was predeceased by his father Thomas (Tom) a few years ago. He is deeply regretted by his heartbroken mother Chris, brothers Patrick and Johnny, sisters Kate, Maggie and Kelly, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. May Gary Rest in Peace


The death took place on Sunday April 12, peacefully at Portlaoise Regional Hospital of Mr Edward (Ned) Walsh, Garryduff, Errill, Laois. His remains reposed at his residence until removal on Tuesday evening to the Church of the Assumption, Killasmeestia. His Funeral Mass on Wednesday was celebrated by Dean Seamus Mc Evoy PP, assisted by Rev. Fr Robert Fletcher PP. His burial took place immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. The late Edward (Ned) who was predeceased by his wife Kitty some years ago, celebrated his 90th birthday earlier this year. He is deeply regretted by his loving daughter Eileen, son in law Dan Healy, beloved grandchildren Danielle, Denise, Edward and Cesira, his brothers Liam, Michael, Cyril and Raymond, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

First Communion

First communion will take place in Borris-in-Ossory on Saturday, May 2 at 11am and in Killasmeestia on Saturday, May 9 at 11am.

Bealtaine Festival

Dance for Fun - a celebration of many Sequence Waltzes led by dance tutor Maureen Culleton will take place on Thursday, May 21 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in St Canice’s Hall. Audience participation welcome. Admission €5.


The trip to Wicklw will take place from Monday July 6 to Friday July 10. The total cost will be €370 which includes four nights’ bed and breakfast/ evening meal in the Arklow Bay Hotel, luxury coach with a guide for the five days.
