All the community is invited to an information session on Wednesday September 16 from 9.30am to 10.30am. Bernadette from Barnardos will talk about a new system of working with children and families called Meithal, aimed at helping families easily get the support they need. FREE PARENTING PROGRAMME
There will be a Free Triple P Parenting Programme for parents of children aged from birth to 7 years in the Treo Nua Family Resource Centre Portlaoise on Thursday September 17. FAMINE WALK DVD
Thursday September 10 is the 20th anniversary of the Mountmellick Famine walk. A coffee morning in aid of Mission Alive will be held in the Arts Centre on Saturday September 12 from 10am to mark this occasion. The Famine Walk DVD will be screened in the Balcony Theatre at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm. Free admission to the screening but support for the coffee morning welcomed.
Meetings resume on Wednesday September 9 at 10.30am in MDA when there will be a general discussion including a discussion on recent holiday. Activities: Mondays: Boccia in the Macra hall at 7.30pm. Tuesdays: aqua aerobics in Portlaoise Leisure Centre at noon (free bus from MDA at 11.15am). Thursdays: music & song in St Vincent’s Hospital.
Kilbride Art Group is exhibiting paintings in the library gallery during September. .

ADULT CRIME BOOK CLUB
The Adult Crime book club will meet on Wednesday September 30 at 11am. The book chosen for this month is ‘Missing without trace in Ireland’ by Barry Cummins.
Record Breakers summer reading challenge is finishing soon. Please complete your reading chart as soon as possible. An award ceremony for all children who completes the challenge of reading 6 books will take place in October.
Ann Egan and Tom Philips will read on Tuesday September 22 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm in the library. All welcome along, tea and coffee will be served.

NIGHT AT THE DOGS
This parish fundraiser will be on Friday September 18 in Newbridge. Tickets €10 and €5 for the bus on sale in the parish office after all weekend Masses. A new friendly strolling group meets each Wednesday at Portlaoise Leisure Centre from 7pm to 8 pm. It’s a social weekly meet up for a gentle stroll and a chat for any persons of any age, with arthritis, fibromyalgia or any such conditions. Come along and give it a try.

LATE CARMEL HIBBITTS
The death occurred on Sunday August 30 at Dromnin Nursing Home Stradbally of Carmel Hibbitts (née Dunne) of New Road, Graigue. Carmel was predeceased by her husband Liam. Remains reposed at Moloney’s Funeral Home until removal to St Joseph’s Church on Monday evening. Requiem Mass was celebrated at noon on Tuesday with burial afterwards to St Joseph’s cemetery.
