Happy retirements to two men who had a big link to education in Stradbally. Farewell also to Padraig Ashe who retired last week as principal of St Colman’s NS in Stradbally where he worked for 27 years.

John Lewis, Cork Road, Stradbally also retired on Friday, June 19 as bus driver after 26 years on school runs for Stradbally Primary, CBS Portlaoise and Scoil Chriost Ri, Portlaoise. Best wishes for a happy and healthy retirement. See Page 36.

ELECTRIC PICNIC 2015

Residents within one mile radius of the Market House are invited to sign for resident’s tickets for this year’s event. Possible draw for tickets if there is a high demand. Signing dates are: Friday, July 10 from 7.30pm-9pm, Saturday, July 11 10.30am-12 noon in St Mary’s Hall.

THE LATE RAYMOND BROWNE

The death occurred on Saturday, June 20 of Raymond Browne, Woodview, Stradbally, peacefully at Droiminin Nursing Home, Stradbally. Deeply regetted by his family, relatives and a large circle of friends. His remains were reposing at the Presentation Chapel, Stradbally until removal on Monday for requim mass to the Sacred Heart Church Stradbally and interment took place afterwards in Oakvale Cemetery, Stradbally.

ST COLMAN’S SCHOOL FUNDRAISING DRAW

Organised by the Parents Council of St Colmans National School, Stradbally, a fundraising draw will be held on Wednesday, July 2. Tickets are only €2.

51ST STEAM RALLY

A reminder that the 51st Stradbally Steam Rally will be held on the weekend of Sunday and Monday, 2 and 3 August in The Lawn.

COMMUNITY GAMES UPDATE

Congratulations to all competitors in u/8-u/13 athletics finals where we took home 7 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze. Great performances all round. In the Leinster quarter finals there was tough competition and all our competitors proudly represented Laois and best of luck to our u/15 futsal team who progress to the Leinster semi finals on July 4 in Newbridge. To date we have 75 qualify for the national finals in Athlone in August – an unbelieveable achievement and many thanks to all involved. All national finalists will be contacted next week or parents can contact 086 7988855 regarding same.

STRADBALLY FLOWER AND GARDEN CLUB

The club outing to Waterford has been changed to Friday, July 10.

CLOPOOK GRAVEYARD MASS

The Clopook graveyard mass will be held on Thursday, July 9 commencing at 7.30pm.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Stradbally Neighbourhood Watch are holding a church gate collection on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12 in Stradbally only.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL SHOP

The St Vincent de Paul shop in Stradbally are looking for good quality ladies and gents and childrens summer clothing and footwear. Please drop them into the shop on Main Street any Tuesday – Friday from 10am till 4pm and on Saturday, 10am – 1pm.
