Weekly draw was conducted at Portlaoise Parish Centre on Wednesday, July 25, the following were the numbers drawn 5,17,21,29. No jackpot winner, €1,008 shared between 18 people who matched 3 numbers. There were two winners from Ballyfin each receiving €56. Jackpot being played for on August 1 is €20,000.


On Wednesday August 1, the music for the céilí is provided by Cork duet, Tim-Joe and Ann O’Riordan. Thursday there will be a guided Slieve Bloom walk for all abilities, assemble at community centre at 2pm .The music for the céilí that night is Brian Ború céilí band from Dublin. Midweek céilithe at 8.30pm. On Friday 3 will be Johnny Reidy céilí band from Kerry at 9.30pm. For any one wishing to learn the art of set dancing there will be a workshop on Saturday from 11am - 4pm with lunch break. Céilí that night with Glenside from Longford 9.30pm. There are two céilis on Sunday.

The GAA Golf Classic took place on Friday in Mountrath GC. The day proved yet again to be a great success and all involved enjoyed their day’s golf with some going on to play the 19th hole in the Deadmans twice later on. Congratulations to all.

The next 1st, 2nd and 3rd year disco is on this Friday August 3 in the separate function room of the Deadmans Inn, Ballyfin at 9pm to 12 midnight (sharp). This a fully supervised event with strictly no alcohol. 


Basketball training takes place for boys and girls aged under 12 on Thursday August 9 from 3- pm in Ballyfin hall. Training session costs €2. No previous basketball experience required. Training will take place each Thursday for the month of August. We hope to start up a basketball club in September if attendance numbers are adequate.


Introduction to Céilí and old-time dancing, led by Maureen Culleton, with live music by three-piece band Carousel. All welcome, there will be plenty of help for beginners. Refreshments served.
