New Years Day Walk
With New years day just around the corner Ballacolla Village will again be the place to be for the annual walk, pony and trap and vintage display where proceeds will go to the senior citizens and national school fund. An invitation is extended to all walkers, pony owners, vintage owners and clubs, and Hi nelly clubs to take part. Participants will follow the usual route by Begadons Forge, Harveys Cross, and Lalors Ballygague whare the usual Christmas cheer will be served. Entertainment and refreshments will also be had at the finish in St Patricks Hall in Ballacolla Village. Start time 2pm. Regestration at 1.15pm.
With rising water and hollidays its an ideal opportunity to start building your raft for the upcoming Woodenbridge Paddlers annual raft race which will take place early in 2013.
Woodenbridge Community Alert AGM
The annual general meeting of Woodenbridge District Community Alert was held in Newtown Mill on Wednesday December 12 with fifty eight people present. A review of the year included the instaling of community alert road signs, the establishment of the text alert service, the success of the group at the Laois county community forum awards night, and the litter pick held twice during clean up Laois week. The unfinished buisness of road side fencing at Cannonswood and the unauthorised parking at Killermogh Church were also discussed. Patricia Johnson of Help Link South gave a talk on monitrerd alarms and other available products. The closure of Ballacolla Garda Station on budget day and the merit of protest was debated. A presentation was made to Garda Pat Neary to mark his retirement from the force. Closing the meeting the chairman thanked Tara and Anthony Shanks for the use of the fabulous Newtown Mill building after which refreshmenth were served to all.
