“I think our fate is sealed,” mourned Cllr Paddy Bracken at Mountmellick Town Council monthly meeting last week.
He believed that Environment Minister Phil Hogan wouldn’t reverse his decision to abolish TCs.
Cllr Bobby Delaney claimed that people were now beginning to realize what the loss of Town Councils would mean.
Cllr Marc Connolly said it was a loss of local democracy after 160 years. He estimated:
“The cost of the two Town Councils in Laois is less than the wages of one TD.”
