The Laois Hunt’s annual Christmas Fair in The Castle Arms Hotel, Durrow, takes place on Sunday, December 8 from 2pm – 6pm. There will be a lovely festive atmosphere, with lots of locally produced food and crafts for sale. €2 entry fee, which includes a complimentary mince pie and glass of mulled wine. Children free with adult. Raffle and auction, live music and carol singing to get you into the festive spirit.
The parish lotto with a jackpot of €11,450 was not won on November 25 ,2013. Winners of the small draw were €30 Helen Woods, €25 Patsy Dunphy and €20 G. Alley. The lotto of December 9 will be held in O’Connell’s Bar Cullohill with a possible Jackpot of €12,050. To win all you have to do is buy a ticket and pick the right numbers, a lovely cash bonus for someone coming up to Christmas. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30 pm on the night of the draw to be included in that jackpot

Christmas Draw: Our Annual Christmas draw tickets are now on sale, through youth members and Scouters. We would ask that you would support your local scout group by buying one. They are selling at €2 per ticket. Funds are needed to aid us in supporting all of our sections. With two new sections up and running funds are needed in order to supply the group with the equipment and resources needed in order to keep our group up and running.
Durrow Vintage Club Ltd 3rd Annual Diecast and Diorama show will be held in the Manor Hotel, Abbeyleix on Saturday December 7 from 2 pm t0 8 pm and on Sunday December 8 from 10 am to 5pm. Admission is €5 ,children free. Please note the change of venue.

The death took place in Dublin on Monday, November 25 of Kathleen Walsh, Portmarnock and formely of Carrigan Street, Durrow. Kathleen was diagnosed with Motor Nueron Disease in 2008 and with the great care of her family Kathleen bore her illness with greath faith and courage. A member of a highly respected family in Durrow ,Kathleen will be sadly missed by her family ,friends and especially her neighbours.
Kathleen is survived by her twin sister Mary, Brother Tommy, sister-in-law Mary,very caring nephews Ciaran and Joe,relatives and a large circle of friends and neighbours.
Kathleen was waked in Stafford’s Funeral Home, Portmarnock from on Monday and in Phelan’s Funeral Home Durrow on Tuesday with funeral prayers at 6.30 pm followed by removal to Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Durrow . Requim Mass was celeberated on Wednesday morning followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
The huge attendance at the wake, removal and burial was a testament to the high regard the people have for Kathleen and to offer to the Walsh Family their hearth felt sympathy at their sad loss. Ar Dheis de go raibh si.
