The Arts Office, Laois County Council arts programme for children and young people in Portlaoise in St Francis NS from July 22-24. Artist Conor Brennan will run fun art workshop for children aged 7-12. During the same week young writers aged 12-15 can explore creative writing with writer Jean O’Brien. Workshops cost €20. The Irish Cancer Society’s Care to Drive Service needs volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from chemoptherapy in Dublin. Volunteers needed to pick up patients at their homes, drive them to hospital and pick them up later to bring them home. Free to patients and driver expenses covered. Congrats to Gary Holmes, Chantiere Gate, son of the lat Tom and Nuala who was ordained a Priest last weekend near Toulon in France. Gary is attached to the recently formed French Order of Priests. Gary’s brothers and sistsers and other family members travelled to France for the ordination. He will be home later this summer when he will celebrate his first Mass in Ireland at SS Peter & Paul’s Parish Church.
The Laois Walks Festival takes place from July 1-31 next. 9km walk at the Rock of Dunamaise at 7.30pm on Saturday .

Seisiún has returned to Laois with an expanded programme for this. There will be weekly sessions in Portlaoise hosted by the local branch on Thursdays at 8.30pm.
Portlaoise GAA Club have launched the first Drive-in Bingo sessions in Laois. Buses and cars are invited to park up at the grounds in Rathleague and play from the comfort of their vehicle, announcing they have won by beeping their horn and flashing lights. The fun family bingo is on the last Sunday of July, August and September, starting on July 27 at 3pm. Overall payout on each day will be €7,500 which includes an accumulative Jackpot starting at €1,000. In support of the club, Portlaoise Musical Society and Multiple Sclerosis Ireland.
