Bridge resumes on Thursday September 11 for the new season. The AGM will be on Thursday September 18. New members always welcome.

Senior surfer internet training begins in the library on Tuesday September 23. It is a 6 week course with each session lasting 2 hours. Cost €25 per person. An exhibition titled ‘Traversing the Littoral’ by artist Karen Hendy will run in the library gallery until the end of September.

A series of folklore cds covering all aspects of the social history of Laois are available to borrow from the library.
yarnbombing club
Yarn Bombing Mountmellick are continuing to meet every alternate Monday and Tuesday, with next meetingon Tuesday September 16, in Methodist Hall. All welcome, bring your needles and yarn and exchange ideas and skills. €2 contribution towards costs.
LOOMING AT LIBRARY
Loom banding continues every second Saturday at the library. The next session is on Saturday September 20 from 11.30am to 12.30pm. All are welcome.

The closing date for completion of the Mythical Maze Reading Challenge is Friday September 12.
MEN’S SHED

SYLVIA PLATH TALK
Dr Arthur Broomfield will give a talk on the works of poet Sylvia Plath at the library on Friday September 19 from 2.30pm to 3.30pm. The focus will be on Plath’s works included in the leaving certificate programme.
READINGS AND MUSIC
Poet Anne Egan and musicians Eddie Sheehan and Niamh Furlong will present an evening of readings and music at The Old Bank House on Friday September 19 at 6pm.

THE LATE KEN MEHRTENS
The death of Ken Mehrtens of Emmet Street on Friday August 29 at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise occasioned much regret. Remains reposed at The Chapel of Rest at the Midlands Hospital until removal to St Paul’s Church Mountmellick. Funeral Service was held at 4pm on Sunday with interment afterwards to the adjoining churchyard. The deepest sympathy of the community is extended to Ken’s family, relatives, neighbours and friends on their bereavement.
