Condolences to the family of the late Christy Brown of Bridge St, Portlaoise formerly Erkina House, Rathdowney who died suddenly at Portlaoise Hospital on September 1. Reposing at the hospital’s Chapel of Rest. Removal was to SS Peter & Paul’s Church for Requiem Mass followed by interment in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.


Condolences to the family of the late William ‘Billy’ Delaney of Mooreville, Rathdowney and formerly Borris-in-Ossory and Moyne, Templetuohy who died on August 31 peacefully at Tullamore Regional Hospital. Deeply regretted by his sons, daughters, his brother John, extended family and friends. Reposal was at O’Sullivan’s Funeral Home. Removal took place to Killasmeestia Church for funeral mass followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.


A great Bingo is held every Tuesday Night at 8.30 in the Rathdowney Community Centre. Your support would be greatly appreciated. Bingo is run by the Community Centre Group.


The Aware Support Group for people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress and other mood related conditions meets every Tuesday at 7.30pm in St. Peter and Pauls Parish Centre, Portlaoise. Clover Utd are looking for new mangers for Junior, Youth and Schoolboy teams if interested please contact any committee member. The academy for under 5 ,6, 7 & 8’s is starting back in a couple of weeks on Saturdays from 10-11am. Anyone interested in booking the Astro-turf should contact Jack Daly.


The museum will be holding a culture night on Friday September 19, between 3-9pm. 3-8pm Tours and Talks, 6-9pm Arts & Crafts exhibition, 6-7pm Pottery display, 7-7.30pm Pottery workshops. The workhouse’s beautiful restored dining hall and Chapel will host the wonderful Craft exhibition by the Laois Craft Group. The event will also include guided tours. Finn O Hara of Finn Pottery Tuition will give a display on the potter’s wheel followed by half hour workshops for children (children must be accompanied by an adult). There was no winner in this week’s Jackpot which was € 4,900. The numbers drawn were 20, 21, 23, 28. Welcome back all our students for the school year 2014-2015. We particularly welcome our new first year students and to those who have transferred to the College from other schools. Congratulations to our Leaving Certificate class of 2014 on their excellent results. The hard work paid off and we are very proud of them. We wish them well in their college careers /apprenticeships.

Classes are recommencing in Scoil Bhride, Rathdowney on Tuesday September 9, from 3-4pm and 4-5pm. The classes are for children aged 6 upwards and cost 5euro per child per class. Please call Linda on 087 1258030 as places are limited.
