Portarlington BNS celebrated their culture in style with a jam-packed Seachtain na Gaeilge schedule.

They began by decorating the school hall in wonderful irish collages. The classes had an opportunity to put on their dancing shoes as they took to doing some ceilí dancing during the week also.

4th class presented a wonderful fashion show to the school. This was all done through irish with special recognition going to Lee Dixon, Jack O’Neill, Luke Melvein and Liam Holland on their excellent spoken irish and creative styles on the catwalk!!!!

1st, 2nd and 3rd class all competed in a basketball blitz with a difference – all words spoken had to be in irish!!! They boys loved this.

5th and 6th class entered into poetry and story writing competitions. Congratulations to Anthony Murphy and Jake Nicholl who proved successful, picking up the gold medals for each of their classes.

Our annual Tráth na gCéist was also held. The winners were Pacey Donagher, Caoimghín Murphy, Conor Storey and Patrick Sobozak. 2nd were Niall Tehan, Conor McLaren, Charlie Evans and Luke Melvein. Over €250 was made on the table quiz and easter raffle and the money will go to an orphanage in Tanzania.

To complete our busy week we had an irish show. Each class performed songs and poems and then the medals and trophies were presented to all the award winners. Our school band also performed in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Portarlington and Monasterevin.

We are already looking forward to Seachtain na Gaeilge next year.
