Camera Club

The Mountrath and District Camera Club is organising a ‘Snap Happy’ photography competition for juveniles. There will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes in four age categories - U7,U12, U15, U18. The theme for entrants is ‘My World@. Entries should be submitted with entry forms (available locally) on 6x8 mounted A4 card. The closing date is Friday, December 12 5pm next. All prizes will be photographic and the winning entries may be viewed on our facebook. Entries by post to Mountrath & District Cameral Club, co The Library, Mountrath. Entry fee €5p to Bumbleance (the children’s ambulance). All entries will be exhibited in Mountrath over Christmas. Judges will be members of the camera club and a sponsor. Contact 086 4056535


The Mountrath branch of the Laois Heart Foundation will hold their monthly meeting in the Cosy Café on Wednesday November 19 at 8p.m. All are welcome. New members always welcome.


The annual Mass for deceased members and friends of the club will be held on Friday Nov 28 at 7-30pm in the clubrooms. This will be followed by the A.G.M. Nomination forms should start arriving within the next few days.Monster Bingo €5,000 fund on Sunday November 30 in Mountrath Community School at 3pm sharp. The lotto jackpot draw held on Monday in Johnny Purcell’s and worth €1,400 was not won. Next lotto is in Toms Bar and the Jackpot is €1,600.

Work continues on the club-house. Great to see so many people helping. To join in come along each Saturday morning or during the week for a few hours during the day. All help will be much appreciated

Adult Book Club

Next meeting will take place on Thursday Dec 4 discussing “To Kill a Mocking Bird” by Harper Lee. Copies at the library & new members welcome.

History Society

The library is setting up a local history society. If interested sign up by calling Aoife on 057 8756378 or call into the library. First meeting on Thursday Nov 27 at 6pm. All are welcome. Library membership is free to all children and OAPs, €3 for social welfare recipients and third level students and €15 for adults. .

Late Mary KERWIN

Condolences to the family of the late Mary Kerwin of Killeaney, Kilbricken, Mountrath who died on November 8 in the care of St Patrick’s Nursing Home Kilkenny. Predeceased by her parents, William and Mary Ann. Sadly missed by her brothers, sister, extended family relatives and friends. Reposing at St Patrick’s Nursing Home. Removal to St. Brigid’s Church Shanahoe for Funeral Mass followed by burial in St Brigid’s Cemetery, Shanahoe.

Late Phyllis BROPHY

Condolences to the family of the late Phyllis Brophy of Woodbrook, Mountrath who died in the care of St St Vincent’s Hospital Mountmellick on November 8. Deeply regretted by her loving daughter Rita, brothers, sisters, extended family, relatives and friends. Reposed at her home (Woodbrook). Removal to St Fintan’s Church Mountrath, for Funeral Mass followed by burial in St Fintan’s Cemetery Mountrath.

Late Johnie MOORE

Condolences to the family of the late Johnie Moore of Rossmore, Ballyfin who died on November 10 at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise. Deeply regretted by his sister Sheila, nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends. Reposed at Burke’s Funeral Home Mountrath.
