Congratulations to Borris-in-Ossory Social Services Committee on winning 1st Prize in the Voluntary Community Services and Support section of the Laois Community and Voluntary Awards 2015. Hosted by the council, the awards were held in the Dunamaise. Services provided by the committee include laundry, meals on wheels, chiropody, monthly afternoon parties, annual Senior Citizens party, annual outing and hospital/nursing home visitations. This award is a recognition of all the volunteers who give their time and energy to provide these services in the community.


The annual parish Senior Citizens Party, organised by Borris-In-Ossory Social Services will be held on Sunday February 15 in the PE Hall at St Joseph’s National School, Borris-In-Ossory. The party will start at 12.30pm with lunch being served at 1 o’clock and this will be followed by music, song and dance. All Senior Citizens in the parish are invited to this party.


The Gardening Group will be meeting on Thursday, January 29 at 7.30pm for our annual get together to make some St. Bridget Crosses for Mass on the weekend of February 1st..This is a night for everyone, members and nonmembers of the group. Please note the earlier time for starting the meeting, but come any time that suits. We extend on our deepest sympathies to the Relatives and friends, and especially Joanna and Fergal on the death of the late Mary Hilliard who passed away recently. She was a great friend of the Gardening Group. May she rest in peace.

Social dancing for fun with Maureen Culleton will resume on Thursday afternoon January 29 and will continue each Thursday in St Canice’s Hall, Borris in Ossory from 2.30pm-4pm. All are welcome.

Borris in Ossory ICA guild has started a course of armchair Pilates which take place each Wednesday night in St Canice’s Hall. The classes will run for six weeks and will start at 8pm each night. Anyone interested in taking part should contact any ICA member.


The Ossory Pilgrimage to Lourdes 2015 – under the Patronage of the Most Rev. Séamus Freeman SAC., Bishop of Ossory, takes place from May 22 to May 27. Cost is €775 pps.
