The AGM of the Slieve Bloom Association is on Thursday June 24in Kinnity Community School at 8:30pm. The Ardeireann Festival in July will be discussed. All members please attend. www.slievebloomassociation.com.

PTAA MEDALS

Mountmellick PTAA will distribute medals and certificates to children, young Pioneers and juveniles on Thursday June 18 at 7.30pm Mass in St Joseph’s Church. All parents are invited , refreshments in ICA Hall. PTAA president Jim Shevlin will attend.

MISSION ALIVE

The annual Mission Alive Coffee Morning and Cake Sale will take place in the convent extension on Friday June 26 from 10.30am to 1 pm. A raffle will also be held with a large selection of prizes. Donations of cakes, scones, tarts etc. and preserves will be appreciated. These can be handed in on morning of sale from 10am. Director of the orphan project Sr Paula will attend. All proceeds from the sale will go to the project in Lusaka, Zambia. Note change of venue this year.

RECYCLe for rock gaa

Clothing recycling drive in aid of The Rock GAA Club on Saturday June 22. Please drop off all items during training (6.30pm to 7.30pm Tuesdays and Thursdays) clean clothes, linens, shoes, bags, belts and soft toys. Laptops (intact with lead) and mobile phones accepted but keep separated. No bric-a-brac. To get donations collected call John 086 3264102 before June 20. Thanks to all for your support.

MOUNTMELLICK GAA

The club wishes Chris Grehan a quick recoveries. He received a blow to his neck and fractured a vertebra. He is now home, but will be in a neck brace for a fortnight before six months to full recovery.

The Thousandaire fundraiser was a very enjoyable night and all the contestants took home prizemoney. The highlight of the night was Conor O’Shea’s Phone-A-Friend being ‘100% certain’ that the Barrow flows through Calcutta! Thanks to all who helped organise it, to the sponsors and to everyone who bought a ticket.

Supervalu competition in McConville’s. A €40 receipt gives you a docket which can be put in the Mountmellick GAA ‘bucket’. The winning club gets a set of juvenile jerseys. Please support the club.

SCOUT NEWS

Beavers, cubs and scouts have been helping the Tidy Towns committee with weeding and sweeping the town in preparation for the national judging while earning their Community Badge. Thanks to Maura Reddin for inviting the group to participate. Cubs working towards their Chief Scout Award have entertained residents of St Vincent’s Hospital over the past three weeks and enjoyed weekend camping at the Log Cabin in Kinnitty.

GYMNASTICS club recycling drive

On Saturday June 20 to raise funds for insurance costs for the upcoming year.  Clean, bagged clothing and textiles, old mobile phones and laptops can be dropped into the Owenass Hall between 9am and 1pm. Support is appreciated. 

TABLE QUIZ

Mountmellick Heritage Society is holding a table quiz in The Druid Inn on Friday June 19 at 9pm, to fundraise for the Homecoming Festival in July. Over 30 events are organised for the festival, many of them free, from heritage, bog and Slieve Bloom walks, to exhibitions, drama, lectures, traditional crafts fair, and food fair, vintage cars, Summer School, storytelling, crafts, dance.
