Budding young musicians flourishing in St Colmcilles

THE pupils of St Colmcille’s NS in Errill have had a very busy month of October.

THE pupils of St Colmcille’s NS in Errill have had a very busy month of October.

The school has been selected for participation in Music Generation Laois as part of the national music education programme. This programme supported by the U2 and Ireland funds.

A choral programme under the direction of Nuala Kelly, co-ordinator with the Laois School of Music, has begun and will continue over two terms. The pupils from 2nd to 6th classes are enthusiastic and excited to be part of this excellent programme.

As part of developing and supporting interest in music education Errill NS now facilitates traditional music lessons every Thursday with Teresa Flanagan, and the pupils have tuition in both tin-whistle and violin. The school is delighted with the response to this endeavour.

Before breaking for the midterm, the 5th and 6th class pupils hosted a Halloween Howler for the pupils of the school. As part of the festivities the school invited the children from the local Orchard creche and playschool to join in all the fun.

Both the children and adults enjoyed the day very much and are looking forward now to beginning rehearsals for their Christmas concert. Rehersals have begun since the children returned to school after their mid term break.
