DIRTY OLD TOWN
The Dirty Old Town committee do it again, this time their efforts were to erect a magnificent clock on the roundabout close to the train station. After the tremendous success of the RTE series the DOT committee wanted to show the public that it wasn’t all about the cameras but about genuinely restoring pride in our town. Project leader was Matt Dunne, who worked tirelessly for the past six months negotiating with Laois County Council, the clock manufacturers, the various workers and the main sponsor of the clock. Matt at the recent unveiling of the clock thanked all the parties involved for all their Trojan work. The clock will be serviced on an annual basis and the roundabout will be maintained by Port Tidy Towns. Matt also gave a special thanks to both Orla Barrett, area engineer, and Kiernan Kehoe, director of public services, for making it all happen. The public response to the clock has been tremendously positive and we all hope it will be admired as we continue our journey in the years ahead. The DOT committee now turn their attention to the other roundabouts and work will begin shortly.
