Condolences to the family of the late Julien Porisse (Jules French Artist painter) late of Main Street, Ballyroan who died on August. 10 at the Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, predeceased by his wife Ann (nee Corcoran) and daughter Therese; deeply regretted by his sons Julien, Liam and Michael, daughter Vivienne, extended family, relatives and friends. Rest in peace. Reposing in the Hospital’s Chapel of Rest. Removal for Requiem Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Ballyroan followed by brial in St Patrick’s Cemetery.
As a result of Cllr Mary Sweeney’s repeated requests to eircom, the exchange system in Ballyroan has been upgraded which means a much improved internet connection for Ballyroan and surrounding area. This upgrade will be fully completed next week.
Coillte have lodged a planning application for a very large industrial wind development on Cullenagh mountain. Another private company have also applied to build eight even bigger turbines close to Clonticoe in the Spink area. Local groups are having a public meeting in Ballyroan Community Hall on Tuesday August 27 at 8pm. We would encourage any body from County Laois who is concerned, or would like more information or would like to preserve our wonderful environment to come to the meeting.
Ballyroan Abbey juvenile club are holding a social night in Whelan’s Lounge this Friday August 30. There will be a raffle for anyone buying a ticket at €5 for many top prizes including All-Ireland tickets and bricquette bundles. Abbey Folk will provide music on the night. Tickets are available from parents and members.
