Making a difference with teenagers
Laois’ Le Chéile volunteers were recognised for their hard work recently at a summer event in Relish Brassiere in Portlaoise.
Co-ordinator Helen McCarthy said it was great to have this opportunity to thank the volunteers for their hard work.
“These volunteers are really committed to the young person or parent that they are working with,” she said.
Laois mentor Aengus Burke was surprised at the difference he has made.
“When a friend recommended volunteering with Le Chéile, I had doubts about what difference a person like me with no experience could make in a young person’s life, but after mentoring two young people, I know it makes a massive difference to them,” he said.
Volunteer Andy Murphy is also glad that he got involved.
“Everybody needs a little help now and then and just being there for a short time each week could make a world of difference to a young person,” he said.
The Midlands project currently has 25 mentors supporting 16 young people and 5 parents.
