Bujinkan Midlands Dojo, studying traditional Japanese martial arts of the samurai and ninja. These arts are taught together as the martial art of Budo Taijutsu. The modern curriculum includes multiple fighting skills including punching, kicking, throwing, limb restraints, rolling and breakfalling. Also studied are weapons skills including Kenjutsu (long and short Japanese swords), Bojutsu (6 foot, 4 foot and 3 foot staff) and more. Training is held every Monday and Thursday from 8 - 9.30pm on the Ballyroan Road, Abbeyleix. Beginners are always very welcome. Our new Chess Club will take place every Wednesday at 3.30pm, starting on Wed 2nd October. Both adults and children are welcome. Storytelling 3-6 year olds every Saturday at 11.30am. We are currently taking names for a knitting club which we hope to start in mid November, more detail will follow. Creative Writing Workshop resumes on Wednesday 30th October at 11am. All are welcome. The next meeting of our Adult Book Club is on Thursday 28th November 2013, between 6-7 pm. The book to be discussed is ‘At Swim-to-Birds’ by Flann O’Brien. Home Instead Senior Care will hold a seminar in the library from 5.30-7.30pm on Thursday November 14. Home Instead Senior Care is the largest non medical home care provider in Ireland. They provide assistance to older people eg light house keeping duties, meal preparation, etc.
