The first Parish Lotto draw for 2014 was held in Castle Arms Hotel with a possible jackpot of €12,350. There was no jackpot winner, small winners were €30 Nancy Alyward, €25 Pat and Lee c/o Bobs Bar, €20 Barry Dunne.
The next draw will be held in Peadar’s Bar with a possible jackpot of €12,650 on Monday night January 20. All tickets must be handed in before 9.30pm on the night of the draw to be included in that night jackpot.
The first whist drive of 2014 organised by the Killermogh Parish Union will be held on Thursday January 23 at 8.30pm in the Parochial Hall, Cork Road, Durrow. All are welcome, great night is assured.

The AGM of Durrow/Cullohill Parish Anglers will take place in the Durrow Inn on Friday night January 17, at 9pm sharp. All members and supporters are invited to attend this meeting. The club wishes to thank everyone who helped in any way to make the past year a very good and successful year especial the farm owners who allow the angler access to the rivers, those who bought and sold tickets for the lotto, Susan Lawlor for selling membership and fishing permits, Michael and Patricia Gaughan for use of their premises after fishing competitions and for meetings and to anyone else who helped in any way the club during the past year.
Our Lady’s Meadow Primary School was presented with a cheque for €793 on Thursday by Shelly Stokes, Castle Durrow and Oliver and Martin Lawlor of Lawlor’s Florists and Garden Centre. The funds were the proceeds of a raffle held during a flower demonstration by Oliver and Martin during the Christmas gala night held in Castle Durrow in early December. The cheque was presented to Canon O’Doherty and Helen Coe, principal and a big thank you to everyone who supported the draw and to Castle Durrow and Lawlor’s.
Durrow Fadó Writers Group
People with a genuine interest in creative writing required to join the above group, initially to assist in writing a drama based on a specific episode in the history of Durrow, and subsequently to compile local data of a social and historical nature for future publications. Workshops are expected to commence in early February. No previous writing experience or indeed in-depth knowledge of local history is required. Enrolment night on Thursday January 23 at 7pm for prospective 1st year students and their parents.
Following a recent visit of the Irish Blood Transfusion service to Durrow the following donors received awards: silver, 10 donations, Declan Murphy, Tinweir, Durrow; gold, 20 donations, Ann Vaugh, Tinweir, Durrow, Eamonn Dohney, Graigueavoice, Cullohill. A total of 131 attended the clinic including 13 new donors and 15 lapsed donors. Many thanks to everyone who attended the clinic.
A meeting of Durrow IFA will be held in Cullohill Community Centre at 8pm on Wednesday night January 22.
Guest speaker on the night is Paul Delaney, chairman of Laois Grain committee. All members are asked to attend.
