The boys from Portarlington boys school celebrated Christmas in style.

The school band performed at the turning on of the Christmas tree lights in the town. This got the boys into the Christmas spirit and they got busy early preparing the arts and crafts for their second annual Christmas fair, which was held on December 15.

Crafts for sale on the day included Christmas cards, hand painted salt dough Christmas tree decorations, Christmas logs, cakes and buns, school calendars and much more. Santa Claus was also there and the event was well supported by the local community.

The band also performed for the staff and residence of our local Oakdale Nursing Home, spreading the Christmas cheer to all.

On the final day of the holidays Ms Reynolds’ 4th class also organised a mad hatters party for the whole school. In the days leading up to the party they boys were busy baking Christmas cookies, rice crispy squares, caramel squares, marshmallow surprises and many other delicious treats. All boys were asked to donate a coin and all the money raised was donated to the local Lions Club.

The boys all designed their own hats to wear to the party and afterwards they held a mad hatters fashions show for the parents and the whole school sang Christmas carols to the large audience in attendance.
