Portlaoise Musical Society will host a fundraising table quiz on Friday June 6 in Grellan Delaney’s in Portlaoise. Tables of 4 cost €40. The recent AGM saw a new committee elected and plans are already underway for 2014. This year’s production - Jesus Christ Superstar has also been cast following recent auditions. Laois Hospice Foundation needs collection volunteers for National Sunflower Day on Friday June 6 to sell sunflowers at various outlets in Portlaoise. This is one of the main fundraisers organised by Laois Hospice Foundation and all monies collected locally are spent on hospice services in Laois. Learning through play

Summer arts for Kids
The Arts Office, Laois County Council announce a fun packed arts programme for children and young people running in the county this year. In Portlaoise in St Francis School from July 22-24 July artist Conor Brennan will run fun art workshop for children aged 7 to 12. During the same week in St Francis budding young writers aged 12 to 15 will get the opportunity to explore creative writing with writer Jean O’Brien. All workshops cost €20. Presentation of pins to the recently enrolled young pioneers confirmation class 2014 takes place on Tuesday next June 3 at 7pm in the Portlaoise parish centre. Families of recipients are also welcome to attend. Light refreshments afterwards.

Condolences to the family of the late Pat Byrnes of Beechfield, Mountmellick Rd, Portlaoise, Laois/Bruree, Limerick & Ballinasloe, Co Galway who died peacefully on May 29 surrounded by his loving family at Naas Regional Hosp. Pat ex defence forces is deeply regretted by his loving wife Margaret, sons Mark, and Daniel, daughters Anna, Joanne, and Marguerite, brothers, sisters, extended family, neighbours and friends. Reposed at his family home. Removal to SS Peter and Paul’s Church for requiem mass. Interment afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery.

Condolences to the family of the late Leslie Bradshaw of the Stradbally Rd, Portlaoise, who died on May 27 peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise, aged 87. Dearly loved husband of Hilda and much loved father to Glenn, Trevor and Karen and the late Mary, brother Aubrey, sisters Olive, Pat, and Jean large extended family, relativies and friends. Funeral service in St Peters Church Portlaoise on Thursday May 29 followed by burial in adjoining graveyard.
