A Mission will take place in Borris-in-Ossory parish from 1st – 8th November. The Mission will be conducted by the Redemptorists: Father Denis Luddy C.SsR and Father John Hanna C.SsR. All households will receive a Mission Booklet the week before the Mission.
A Remembrance Mass for the Sisters of Mercy lately interred in Derrinsallagh Cemetery will be offered at St Canice’s Church, Borris-in-Ossory on Friday 24th October at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
First Confessions will take place on Tuesday 24th March 2015 at 8 p.m. in St. Canice’s Church, Borris-in-Ossory and on Wednesday 25th March at 8.15 p.m. in the Church of the Assumption, Killasmeestia. The dates for next year’s First Communion are- Borris-in-Ossory Saturday 2nd May at 11 a.m. and Killasmeestia Saturday 9th May at 11 a.m. Confirmation will take place on Sunday 8th March 2015 in Borris-in-Ossory.
TIDY TOWNS AGM
The Annual General Meeting of Borris Development/Tidy Towns took place in St Canice’s Hall on Tuesday October 14, chaired by John Phelan. A vote of sympathy was passed and a minute’s silence was observed for the late Jack Fahey. The meeting was adjourned for a short while as a mark of respect . He was an outstanding worker for the good of the community. The late Jack started and co-ordinated numerous projects which improved and enhanced the locality and was involved with the Development Association/Tidy Towns, helping them to win the Tidiest town in Laois for the last seven years. He worked tirelessly and was always available when needed. Thanks was also extended to Jack’s wife Margaret for all her help and co-operation.
The election of officers took place and the following officers were elected for the coming year – President – Rev Fr. Jackie Robinson PP, Chairman – Fran Dowling, Vice Chairman - John Phelan, Secretary – Pauline Gardiner, Hon. Treasurer – Canice Sheeran, Assistant Treasurer – Kay Dowling, P.R.O. – Sr. Regina.
The meeting decided that a Clean Up of the town would take place in the first Saturday of each month at 11am. All residents are requested to attend. To defray expenses for grasscutting, etc it was also agreed that a Church gate collection would be held on Saturday and Sunday November 29 and 30. The incoming chairman Fran Dowling thanked Fr Robinson for arranging the Church gate collection and also thanked the large attendance at the meeting.
Hare catching continues each Sunday for Borris-in-Ossory & Rushall Coursing Club, meeting at Kirwan’s, Midland Service Station at 10.15am. It was great to see quite a few new young faces joining the team last year and more are welcome this year. All other members are expected to attend each Sunday.
Members of Borris in Ossory ICA will be filling shoeboxes for the Team Hope Christmas Children’s Shoebox Appeal in St Canice’s Hall on Thursday November 6. Anyone wishing to donate items for the shoeboxes can do so by contacting any ICA member. This is a very deserving charity which provides Christmas gifts to needy children abroad who might not otherwise receive a visit from Santa Claus.
Sympathy is extended to Mrs Carol Sinnott, Ballybrophy on the recent death of her brother, the late Mr Paul Bennett, late of North Square, Inchicore, Dublin. His remains reposed at his home until removal on Tuesday to the Church of Mary Immacualate (Oblates), Tyrconnell Road, Inchicore for Requiem Mass. Burial took place immediately afterwards in Esker Cemetery, Lucan. The late Paul is deeply regretted by his wife Chriss, daughter Denise, sons Declan and Stephen, brother Gordon, sisters Von and Carol, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.
Sympathy is extended to Rev. Fr Donal Walsh, former curate in Borris-in-Ossory on the death of his brother, the late Liam (Red Willie) Walsh, Tinnahinch, Graiguenamanagh, Carlow. His death took place on Tuesday 30th September and his Requiem Mass was celebrated in Duiske Abbey, Graiguenamanagh on Thursday October 2, followed by burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Tinnahinch. The late Liam is deeply regretted by his wife Nodlaig, sons Christopher, John Raymond and William, daughters, Marguerite, Mary Rose, Jacqueline and Hillary, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law and partners, grandchildren, sisters Mary, Eva and Clare, brothers Fr. Donal, Colm and Brendan, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Sympathy is also extended to his cousins, the Sweeney family, Rathmore, Ballybrophy.
