Rose Dooley and Charlie White’s recent coffee morning and cake sale for Beaumont Hospital’s neurosurgery department raised a massive €6,265. This money goes directly towards the purchase of an intra-operative MRI scanner for Beaumont, the first of its kind in Ireland. Rose and Charlie thank all who helped make this day such a success.

A public meeting will take place in the Town Hall on Wednesday October 29 at 8pm, to elect a committee to organise the 100th anniversary commemoration of the Easter Rebellion 1916 in Mountmellick town and district in 2016. Open to anyone with an interest in being involved.

A celebration of Laois members of Comhaltas who took part in All Ireland Fleadh 2012, 2013 and 2014 took place in the Abbeyleix Manor recently. It was a night of music and fun and participants were presented with a certificate. No music this week (Tuesday October 21) due to the open night in the Community School, or the following week (mid-term break). Tell the committee if you are interested in taking part in Scór na nÓg on November 14 in Mountmellick; singing, playing music, recitation, and quiz for GAA members aged 12 to 17. Well done to our musicians who played music in Supervalu recently.

The Gandon Arts Group presents its autumn lecture series in the Arts Centre on Tuesdays at 7pm on ‘Benefactors of the National Gallery of Art’ by art historian Dr Ciaran Woods.
